Now that our truck is officially pointing south, we know that we are on our way home. It's a weird feeling. We thought almost 4 months being away and on the road was a going to be a long time, but now that it's almost over,- it went SO fast.
We have a few more weeks and some more sights and friends to see before the trip finish line.
First stop after Canada was right outside Bangor, Maine. We just stopped for one night, and realized that we were not too far away from Acadia National Park. After a long travel day, we decided to go ahead and check out that park. Check off a 14th national park for this trip? Why not. We headed to Acadia around 4:00pm and I worked the rest of the day in the truck on the way in. Maine is SO pretty. I love all the old style homes and scenery.
It started storming right when we were entering the park. It was raining so hard that we really couldn't even see any of the scenery around us. We decided to continue driving to the top of Cadillac Mountain. Right when we got to the top, the rain stopped and there was a huge rainbow. It was pretty cool, and the views from the top were stunning. We walked around the top for a bit, then headed to a couple more stops by a lake and a nature trail. As we were walking along the lake we saw a beaver just hanging out. (see video) After a couple hours of sight seeing it was time to head back. We drove into the town of Bar Harbor ( Loved this little town, and must go back and stay longer!) and then stopped along the way for a Maine Lobster Roll, because when in Maine, right?
Our next stop was in Kennebunkport, Maine for a night. I have a client that has a hotel in Delray Beach, Florida and in Kennebunkport. We decided to stop in and say hello and finally see my clients in person whom I have been working with for years. I had always heard that this area was beautiful, so we were excited to check it out. We got into our campsite, then headed over to the hotel. It is a beautiful, historical hotel with amazing ocean views! We met with some of the staff, and the GM, John, was nice enough to show us around and gave us a pool pass and bought us drinks and dinner.
We then drove around the town and drove right by the Bush family compound. This little town was similar to Bar Harbor and SO cute. We really loved coastal Maine. 😍
After Maine, we had a couple quick overnight stops just to get further south to the DC area for the weekend without driving too long of days. First we stopped in Austerlitz, New York where our site was right next to a giant air jump pillow. Naturally, I had to try it out. The weather was nice, so we spent the evening outside and cooking at our site. Then, we headed down to Barnesville, Pennsylvania. We had a site right on a lake, and went out to eat some mexican food in town and took a ride through country rodes to look around.
Friday we arrived into Haymarket, Virgina, which is about 45 minutes outside of DC and super close to where Dean's best friend, Daryn and his family lives.
We stopped by to see Daryn, Michelle and their three kids Friday evening and then went to grab dinner in town. Saturday we spent the day being tourist in DC. Dean had never been and I haven't been since I was 15. We saw all the main attractions, and did lots of walking. My long time family/friend Thiago ( Elmo, IYKYK 😆) and his wife and mother in law, met us in the city and we went to the museum of natural history with them. It was SO great to see them. After touring the city, we went back to the camper to rest bit. Daryn and Michelle suggested we go to a restaurant in a small near by town of Middleburg, VA called King Street Oyster Bar. The town was so cute, and the food was delicious!
Sunday we spent the afternoon with Daryn, Michelle and their adorable kids. It was so great catching up with them. Daryn and Michelle moved away from Florida when their first born was just a baby. Now they have three adorable kiddos. Dean and Daryn have been close friends since Dean first moved to Florida. It was really great seeing them.
Monday morning it was time to continue southbound. We had one more stop in Southern Virginia for a night then off to Greenville, South Carolina for about a week to see our close friends Jim, Elaina and 2 kids. We haven't seen them since they moved away from Florida over a year ago. We cannot WAIT to see them! ☺️
