Florida to Texas

Getting out of Florida really made this trip seem real. Sunday we said goodbye to our friends and started heading out of Florida. We had one more stop before officially leaving the sunshine state in Chatahoochee. We stayed at a campsite called Flatt Creek. It was fine for an over night stop. We had a pull through site but it was very close to sites on each side of us and on unneven gravel. The towns near by were small and mostly ghost towns. We looked up a near by park to explore a bit. It was along a lake where Georgia was just on the other side of it.
We even saw a deer before heading out of the park to beat the rain. When we got back to our camper it stormed, bad. lol

We both stared at the radar where we were in the center of all red for a good 30 minutes. It poured down with rain coming in sideways. We lucked out that we were so close to the spots next to us, and they happened to be massive motorhomes. I think that definitely protected us a bit from the wind and sideways rain. We sure were happy when that was over!
The next morning we headed to Alabama. We stayed at the cutest RV park in Robertsdale, AL. The camp hosts were so nice and we had a nice concrete slab pull through lot. The weather was perfect and even got a little chilly as the sun went down. We went into town for dinner then came back to take a walk. We found some interesting animals along the way.
Next stop was Baton Rouge, Louisiana! We had an overnight stay right near LSU next to an Equestrian Center. There were only a few others there, and we were in a beautiful field under a tree. I really loved this spot. If it was rainy it wouldn't have been ideal, because you were in the grass. We lucked out with perfect weather.
We looked for a creole restaurant and found an awesome placed called Roux 61. The food was delicious and we were excited to have crawfish. After dinner we went for a bike ride along the Mississippi River and went by LSU and the stadium.
The next morning, we woke up to the horses in the field right next to us. It was beautiful to watch before we headed back on the road again.
We headed west to Texas Wednesday morning. Dean as our pilot, me working with my great set up in truck, and Jeffrey snoozing in his bed in the back. The weather was nice but it was windy! There were about 20 mph winds most of the drive. Then, about 30 minutes into Texas we started getting into slowing traffic. We eventually came up on a bad accident and police, ambulance, and fire trucks came and completely blocked off traffic right as we were going to get by. We were stuck...For 2 hours! Unfortunately, it was a multi-vehicle crash with 2 fatalities. We sat on I-10 until they started turning around ( or backing up in the case of trailers and big trucks). We were the closest to the wreck, so the last to be able to back up. The cop came up to our truck and asked Dean, "How good is your backing up game?" lol Well, we were about to find out! We backed up a 1/4 mile on the highway until it was wide enough we could turn around. ( video in instagram stories here )
We finally made it to our stop just east of Houston. Our 4 hour road day turned into a 7 hour day! Between the wind and that accident, whew- It was an eventful one. Dean did such a great job getting us to the next stop safely. 🥰
Once we settled in, we noticed that Whataburger was right down the road and Dean has never been!! ( If you know, you know!) So, we went there to grab dinner. We were too wiped after the day to think about cooking. The RV Park we stayed in Baytown, TX- East Houston RV Resort, was really nice. Well kept, clean, nice amenities, and the sites were nice, level concrete spots. They even gave us waters and treats for Jeffrey upon arrival. The only negative is that it is RIGHT off I-10 and it's loud, like really loud. lol

We are off to Austin today, and staying until Monday! PS: We found the cheapest gas so far on our journey in Texas at $3.59!! Hopefully we will continue to see a downward trend.

A full whataburger review from Dean is needed I think..
Way to go Dean!
